(Undated) – With the threat of “oppressive heat” the next couple of days, the Red Cross is offering some basic safety tips. Stay inside during the hottest parts of the day. Drink plenty of water, wear light colored loose fitting clothes, and take frequent breaks if working outdoors. Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning. Check on outside animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat. For more information on what to do when temperatures rise, download the free Red Cross Emergency App. The app also gives users the option to receive alerts for excessive heat watches, warnings, and advisories.
