(Undated) — Mosquitos collected in the area have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. According to Jasper County officials, routine mosquito testing has identified the first batch of West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes in Jasper County in 2025. They say the “positive pool” was collected on July 23rd. Health officials warn the public to take precautions such as avoiding being outdoors between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active. When outdoors, wear shoes, socks, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts, use insect repellent that contains DEET, and eliminate sources of standing water that support mosquito breeding.
