Limit Alcohol and Improve Heart Health

(Undated) — If you want to help your blood pressure, put down the drink. According to new guidelines from the American Heart Association, limiting alcohol intake is good for blood pressure. They say that for those who choose to drink, it is recommended that men consume no more than two drinks per day and women should limit their drinks to one per day. The new study also says that red wine is not a “miracle drink for heart health.” They say that while some scientific studies have shown that small amounts of red wine may be linked to improved heart health, the link reported in many studies may be due to lifestyle factors other than alcohol. Like any dietary or lifestyle choice, if you choose to drink red wine, it’s about moderation. It’s the first time the national guidelines for minimizing the risk of hypertension have been updated since 2017.
