EA has confirmed the soundtrack for its upcoming Skate game will feature over 100 songs from artists such as Little Simz, Turnstile and Denzel Curry.
Skate 4 AKA Skate is set to launch in Early Access at some point this year but not much more is known about the “next evolution” of the series. However in a press release, developers have confirmed details of a bumper soundtrack.
EA have confirmed the Skate soundtrack will feature “over 100 songs” (via Eurogamer). These will include “hits from emerging artists and deep cuts to help players discover new music as they skate through San Vansterdam. Each session stays fresh and high energy, and like San Vansterdam itself, the soundtrack will evolve with every season.”
The first six artists confirmed for the Skate soundtrack are:
- Little Simz
- Denzel Curry
- Turnstile
- MF Doom
- Skeggs
- Earth, Wind & Fire
Last year, audio director Matthew Smith explained the importance of the Skate soundtrack. “Music has always been such an integral part of skateboarding culture, from getting you in the zone to bringing groups of people together for a shared experience so we’re curating a soundtrack you’ll love, but won’t remain static either,” he said in a developers diary. “It’ll keep evolving over time.”
“We want San Van to be a world of music discovery, where you can come and discover new artists and genres just by skating around the city,” he continued, with different districts in the game having their own unique soundtracks. “We want to create a world where everyone can really feel at home and like they belong.
Head of creative James Seamaster went on to say that the free-to-play massively multiplayer reboot has been designed to “speak to both seasoned players and newcomers alike.”
Earlier this year, Tony Hawk had to defend changes made to the soundtrack of the remastered Pro Skater 3+4 after a number of original songs were replaced. “Not everyone agreed with that decision, but I feel like ‘let’s keep it fresh’ and also ‘here’s help discovering other music’. In the beginning that’s what people expected of it – once the soundtrack was a prominent part of the game, people were like ‘ok’ what are you going to throw at us now’, almost like an underground radio show.”
In other news, controversial animal rights organisation PETA has demanded that Nintendo change the appearance of fan-favourite Mario Kart World character, Cow.
