They say fraudulent messages appear to be from tax agencies, requesting personal or financial information. This scheme involves unsolicited, urgent text messages claiming that “a tax refund has been processed.” Recipients are then asked to provide or verify their personal banking information under the threat of losing a state refund. Taxpayers should never click on links or provide personal or financial details in response to these texts, and instead should delete them.
