Kevin Spacey says he’s homeless and living in hotels after sexual assault scandal

Kevin Spacey has admitted that he is homeless due to a career downturn following the sexual assault accusations made against him.

The Oscar-winner was once one of the most in-demand names in the industry, known for his work on films such as The Usual Suspects, L.A. Confidential, Horrible Bosses, and the Netflix TV show House Of Cards.

However, the actor was accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp in 2017, with a number of other accusers then coming forward in the next few years. In 2022, a jury in New York found that Spacey wasn’t liable for battery in relation to Rapp’s accusations, and the following year, a court in the UK found him not guilty of nine counts of alleged sexual assault.

The initial allegations meant Netflix terminated its relationship with the actor, with the final season of House Of Cards being filmed without him. He also had his role in the drama All The Money In The World reshot with actor Christopher Plummer replacing him, while a biopic of writer Gore Vidal was also cancelled by Netflix. Kevin Spacey has denied all allegations made against him.

The star has appeared in a handful of independent releases since then, but has said in an interview published Wednesday (November 19) that the downturn in fortunes has left him without a fixed address.

“I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs,” he told The Telegraph. “I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”

He explained that his former home had been auctioned off due to financial issues. “The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical,” he said. “I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.”

The star remains hopeful that his career will return to the heights it once reached, revealing that he has been talking to industry decision makers about a return.

“We are in touch with some extremely powerful people who want to put me back to work,” Spacey said. “And that will happen in its right time. But I will also say what I think the industry seems to be waiting for is to be given permission — by someone who is in some position of enormous respect and authority.”

He concluded “So, my feeling is if Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call Evan [his manager, Evan Lowenstein] tomorrow, it will be over. I will be incredibly honoured and delighted when that level of talent picks up the phone.”

In February, Kevin Spacey dismissed claims made by L.A. Confidential co-star Guy Pearce that the actor “targeted him”, releasing a response video that said: “Grow up, you are not a victim”.
