Maisie Peters has joined forces with Marcus Mumford to share the enchanting new song ‘Say My Name In Your Sleep’.
The new track comes as the singer-songwriter has just wrapped up her run of sold-out ‘Before the Bloom’ comeback shows, which saw her play in intimate venues across New York and London.
Arriving today (Thursday November 20), the new single marks the latest teaser of Peters’ soon-to-be-announced third album, and the first of two tracks that will feature the Mumford & Sons singer as a guest star.
“When you’re out in your car/ Turn the radio on / Am I crawling out the speakers, am I sitting on your chest?/ Does my memory kill?/ Or is it letting you live?,” Peters sings in the first verse on top of an optimistic, yet subdued melody, building up to the chorus.
According to the singer, the track is loosely inspired by Rebecca, the 1938 Gothic novel by Daphne du Maurier, and explores how love has an undying impact on each of us, as well as how the right love helps you heal from the wrong one.
“It was one of the first songs Marcus and I wrote together in Real World Studios in deep winter – there was something magical and spooky in the air there, and I think it definitely got translated into this song,” Peters explained.
“‘Say My Name In Your Sleep’ is a song about both haunting and being haunted. It’s about keeping a constant eye on the past – on the person you loved – whilst being old enough and grown enough to know it wasn’t right, and to wish them all the best,” she added.
“It’s about having a tiny, secret sliver of your heart that still, deep down, hopes and prays they think of you – just a little, just when it’s dark, just when they hear that song on the radio. It’s about letting go, begrudgingly, but letting your shadow linger a moment too long.”
More information about Maisie’s forthcoming third album is set be be announced at a later date.
The new track arrives after Peters worked with IDLES, Yard Act, Enter Shikari, jasmine 4.t and more to support the ‘Hope Over Fear’ t-shirt campaign organised by Music Declares Emergency.
Before then, the singer joined Myles Smith, Tori Kelly, Busted, Dylan, and James Blunt in opening for Ed Sheeran at his three homecoming shows in Ipswich for this summer.
