‘Hollow Knight’ creators tease ‘Silksong’ sequel and expansion

Hollow Knight boss Ari Gibson has already started teasing a sequel to Silksong, which was finally released earlier this year.

Hollow Knight was originally released in 2017 and developers Team Cherry announced plans for an expansion to focus on new character Hornet shortly afterwards. However in 2019, it was confirmed that the DLC would be turned into a full-blown sequel.

Following several delays Hollow Knight: Silksong was released earlier this year. As well as selling more than six million copies the long-awaited sequel is one of the best-reviewed games of the year.

And it looks like Team Cherry are already thinking about a third Hollow Knight game. Speaking to the Australian Centre For The Moving Image shortly before Silksong’s release (via GamesRader+) Team Cherry studio lead Ari Gibson explained that the sequel is “a game that can stand alongside Hollow Knight” and the two titles “really complement” each other, meaning newcomers can play them in any order. “We’re not trying to push boundaries; we have a very set style, it’s pretty simple.”

Gibson added that players wouldn’t “feel like [they] lost anything, traveling back to the original game” after playing Silksong. “And if there were ever others, we would hope that they all follow that same pattern – that the series is all games that just exist alongside one another.”

Shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong was released, Team Cherry’s William Pellen said (via Bloomberg): “Launching it is obviously quite exciting. What comes after for us is equally as exciting.”

“The most interesting thing now is what can we add to it next,” Gibson continued. “We got a plan. Admittedly, some of the plans for that stuff are kind of ambitious as well, but hopefully we can achieve some of it.”

As it stands, neither an expansion or a sequel to Hollow Knight: Silksong have been officially confirmed.

In other news, Roblox CEO David Baszucki has responded to accusations that the gaming platform is being used by predators to contact young children in a bizarre interview.
