Macaulay Culkin has shared that his two young sons still don’t know he played Kevin in Home Alone.
Asked by Deadline how it felt to star in the iconic Christmas movie on the eve of its 35th anniversary, Culkin said he was still struck by the reception from fans decades on from its initial release. “I’m 45 now,” he said. “And for other 45-year-olds out there, it’s nostalgic. But now they’re showing their kids the same way that I show it to my kids.”
As for how his two boys respond to seeing their dad on screen, he joked: “Man, they have no idea who they’re sitting next to, the entire time. They just go, ‘Oh, there’s Kevin.’ They call him Kevin Disney, because of Disney+, which shows the little holiday trailer.”
He went on to say he’d looked over some old family photos with his eldest son recently, and he had immediately gravitated toward a photo of a young Culkin. “He goes, ‘Hey, that kid looks like Kevin. Who is that?’
“I go, that’s me,” the actor explained. “And he didn’t put it together. And I’m like, ‘Good. No, no, not yet. Not that. He just thinks I looked a lot like Kevin.”

He did admit that the penny is bound to drop one day, but said he is eking it out for as long as possible.
“It’s going to hit him, one day. He’ll watch the movie, and his system will go, ‘Wait a second’. I’m awaiting the ‘wait a second’ moment,” Culkin said.
“I’m sure some kid at recess is going to spoil it for him, like, there is no Santa Claus, that kind of thing. I’m keeping the veil up for as long as possible. ‘Hey, that kid looks like Kevin’, I go, ‘Yeah, he sure does.’”
Culkin was one of the biggest box office stars of the ‘90s as a child actor, before leaving the limelight in his early teens. In recent years, he has embraced the nostalgia surrounding Home Alone, appearing in Google ads paying homage to his role.
He also has other projects on the horizon, including a role in the second season of Fallout, with his “crazy genius” character introduced in the show’s latest trailer.
