(Undated) – With a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, drivers are being reminded of some simple winter driving safety tips. When traveling on snowy roads, you should leave at least 1.5 car lengths between you and the vehicle ahead. Pump brakes gently when slowing or stopping. If you start to slide, take your foot off the gas, let the vehicle slow, lightly pump the brakes, and remember to “turn into the slide.” If you do slide off the road, put your emergency flashers on, stay in your car, and call 911. If you are following or approaching a snowplow, slow down, give it room to work, and never try to pass. For Illinois road conditions, visit gettingaroundillinois.com.
