(Undated) – The time change is this weekend, and once again, fire officials say it’s a great time to check your smoke detectors and CO alarms. The Robinson Fire Protection District reminds residents to test, inspect, and replace any broken or expired smoke and CO alarms. They say smoke alarms with “non-replaceable 10-year batteries” are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away. They say carbon monoxide detectors typically have a five to seven-year life span. Detectors with any type of “replaceable” batteries need a new battery at least once a year. However, they recommend replacing batteries every six months.
