Ice Cube has been named the Worst Actor at this year’s Razzie Awards.
The rapper starred in last year’s widely panned adaptation of War of the Worlds, which dominated at the 46th Razzie Awards last night (March 14).
Ice Cube beat out Abel Tesfaye – aka The Weeknd – (Hurry Up Tomorrow), Dave Bautista (In the Lost Lands), Scott Eastwood (Alarum) and Jared Leto (Tron: Ares) for the undesirable Worst Actor award.
The parody award show also gave War of the Worlds trophies for Worst Director (Rich Lee), Worst Screenplay (Kenny Golde, Marc Hyman) and Worst Prequel, remake, rip-off or Sequel.
The film, which is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, also stars Eva Longoria and Clark Gregg. It marks the latest adaptation of H.G. Wells’ iconic 1898 sci-fi novel, in which an extra-terrestrial race threatens humanity.
Ice Cube stars as Department of Homeland Security officer Will Radford, who works for a government surveillance program that can monitor every person on Earth.
While helping FBI agents track down a hacker known as ‘Disruptor’, a meteor strike begins, from which machines emerge and start attacking humans, presumed to be an alien invasion.
The film has been described as a “screenlife” thriller, meaning that it takes place on Radford’s computer screen.
Upon the film’s release, it was trashed by viewers, with Reddit users saying the film is “so bad I can’t look away”, and, “If this was physical media I would toss it directly into the garbage”.
Meanwhile, critics have also overwhelmingly panned the film, with Variety calling it “disastrous”, adding: “What should have been a spectacular Roland Emmerich-style montage of destruction instead comes off blurry and unconvincing, as Will clicks through short lo-res videos of the attack.”
Elsewhere, The Telegraph gave the film one star in a review that called it “silly” and “shoddy”. It reads: “Like a heat-ray in reverse, it leeches all the fun out of what should be an epic tale of alien invasion.”
Last year, Francis Ford Coppola issued a response to “winning” Worst Director for Megalopolis at the 2025 Razzie Awards.
The $120 million film, which was self-funded by Coppola, was nominated for six Razzies in total, including Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. Taking to Instagram, Coppola ironically state it was an “honour” to receive the Worst Director award, before hitting out at the industry for being “terrified” of taking risks.
