Keep Grass Clippings Out of the Roads

(Undated) – This time of year brings the need to get out and mow the yard. Authorities are reminding everyone to keep the clippings off the roads. Not only is it illegal, but it is also potentially dangerous to those on a motorcycle. The addition of debris on the road can cause loss of traction and control for a motorcyclist and motorists of any kind. According to Illinois law, it is illegal to deposit grass clippings onto any public roadway, as it may cause injury to motorists or become a traffic hazard. There is also an ordinance in Robinson forbidding the practice. City officials say the additional waste on the road gets washed into the storm drains and clogs the city sewer system.
