Christian singer Natalie Grant is opening up about a crazy health scare.
During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, the 54-year-old singer discussed what it meant to her to honor Dolly Parton at the Dove Awards and how she ended up in the hospital with internal bleeding.
Grant explained that after moving her daughter into her dorm room at college, they went out to dinner together with her husband, and on the way, her foot “caught this brick on the ground” and she “belly flopped” onto the ground.
“I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I broke a rib’ or ‘Man, that’s gonna leave a bruise’ or ‘I kind of knocked the wind out of me,'” she said. “But then I got up and I kept walking to dinner. I’m like, I’m sore, but I’m gonna be okay. It wasn’t until I realized that I was bleeding internally. And when I realized that it was an emergency, got to the emergency room. And they were like your bladder could rupture, because my kidney was bleeding, and I wasn’t able to pass urine.”
She explained that when she initially arrived at the emergency room, doctors “were kind of confused about what was going on,” and it wasn’t until she was admitted into the ICU when they realized how serious her condition was.
“I had a catheter so you could see the blood kept filling. I wouldn’t stop bleeding, and I think that’s when they were like we’ve got to get you in for surgery and figure out what’s going on. But they all let me know like if you wouldn’t have come in, like I talked about maybe going to a bigger hospital, and they said, ‘No you were really smart to come as fast as you could and get here as quickly as you can,’ because if I didn’t, my bladder would have actually ruptured, and I wouldn’t have known it.”

The singer went on to say that even through all her pain, she was thinking about her children and how they were feeling, noting that as moms, “we’re always concerned about everybody around us,” even when bleeding internally.
While in the hospital, she was thinking of her daughter in the hospital with her, who “faints at the sight of blood,” as well as her other two daughters back home in Nashville, and how she was going to tell them.

“I was in pain, but I didn’t want to miss the moment. I was like, ‘No, we are celebrating the fact that she has finished college, and we are going to dinner together, and we’re going to make this memory,'” she said. “And I’m kind of like hurting and limping and not able to fully eat my meal. And I was, like, I don’t think I can ignore this anymore, but that was just such a picture of what moms do.”
After her incident, Grant urges her fans not to “ignore your body,” saying, “God created our body in such a way that it gives us signs” and too often, those signs go ignored until “it’s too late.”

Months after the fall, Grant said she has completely healed, and that, “funnily enough,” she did actually break a rib in the fall, and that has been the most painful part.

“I just last week had my final cystoscopy which checked inside my kidney and my bladder and everything looks fantastic. It’s 100 percent healed. You actually can see a scar from where it was and there’s I’m like, there’s a sermon in that. It’s all healed, we still have the scar, but it’s healed. And then I just had an ultrasound as well. So internally, everything is 100%. And I just, I thank God because that could have gone 100 different directions. But I’m very, very grateful for good medical care and for the faithfulness of God took care of me.”

The Christian singer recently honored Dolly Parton at the Dove Awards earlier this month, telling Fox News Digital “the most emotional moment for me came in the planning season of it.”
The 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards took place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, hosted by Tauren Wells.
When putting together the tribute, Grant was left wondering how to honor someone who made such an impact in not just the music industry, but the world, noting, “I’m not gonna sing nine to five or some of her greatest hits, like how do we make this work?”

“And it was really in looking and reading and remembering and knowing the story of Dolly’s faith and how much her faith mattered to her, guided her, led her to the way she lived her life, to the ways she loved people, to the fact she was sure of who she was,” she said. “And I think finding that video of her singing ‘How Great Thou Art,’ that was probably the most emotional moment for me was going, wait, this is the anchor of her, the anchor of who she was, was the songs of the faith. And I think that that was really beautiful to get to tell that part of her story.”
