Nintendo has confirmed that the long-awaited Switch 2 will be released this June.

The successor to the original Switch was confirmed earlier this year and today (April 2) Nintendo hosted a special hour-long Direct presentation to reveal more details about the Switch 2.

The redesigned console is bigger and more powerful than the original Switch, and also boasts 8 times as much internal storage. The magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers have also been upgraded.

A new Mario Kart game World will be one of several launch titles for the console, with up to 24 different characters going head-to-head in a variety of racemodes. A special Mario Kart direct is planned for later this month (April 17) to reveal more details about the game, but developers have already confirmed an open-world mode will allow players to explore the various levels at their own pace.

A special Nintendo Switch 2 tour game will also be available on launch day, giving players a guided introduction to the many new features of the console.

Nintendo has also confirmed a number of classic Switch titles will receive special Switch 2 upgrades, including Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom. Upcoming games Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also get special Switch 2 editions that will add new features and more control options.
