The fightin’ Phils are in town to do battle with the birds this weekend!

After a difficult 1-5 road trip that saw the St. Louis Cardinals get swept by the Boston Red Sox and drop the series to the Pirates, the Cardinals now sit below .500 and have an even more daunting NL opponent coming to town in the 1st place Philadelphia Phillies. The Cardinals will get the undesirable privilege of facing arguably the 3 best starters for the Philies this year in Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sanchez, and Zack Wheeler. The Phillies come in with an 8-4 record on the season with a +13 run differential that’s tied for 5th in the NL behind the Cubs +28, Giants +18, Dodgers +15, and Padres +14. The Cardinals are only a -2 at this point, but that doesn’t feel representative of how the first 2 weeks of the season has gone. Perhaps with a struggling Chris Roycroft being demoted to AAA and recalling Roddery Munoz, the presence of a fresh arm and fresh confidence can help solidify a bullpen that’s been shaken and tested a lot early on this season.

How to watch: FanDuel Sports Midwest, Matrix Midwest. KMOV-4

How to Listen: KMOX 1120AM/ 104.1FM, WIJR 880AM (Spanish broadcast)

Starters:

STL: Andre Pallante (1-0 3.86 ERA)

Vs

PHI: Aaron Nola (0-2 6.35 ERA)

Players to watch:

STL: Brendan Donovan: In his last 7 games Donovan is 13-28 (.464/.500/.679) and his hitting everything in sight right now well. Donnie is 2-4 with a HR in his career against Nola so look for his hot hitting to continue tonight.

PHI: Kyle Schwarber: Schwarber is currently tied for the MLB lead in HR with Aaron Judge and Tyler Soderstrom with 6. In his career against Pallante he’s 3-6 with a HR. Look for the slugging Schwarber to continue thumping baseballs against a pitch to contact style pitcher.
