(Undated) – We hear industry analysis talk about the switch to “summer gas,” but what does that mean? According to GasBuddy.com, in the warmer months, gasoline has a greater chance of evaporating from your car’s fuel system. Refiners reduce the chance of gas evaporation in your car during the summer by producing gasoline blends that have lower volatility. According to the National Association of Convenience Stores, this higher-grade fuel can add up to 15 cents per gallon to the cost of your fill-up, and the switch from “winter” to “summer” gasoline is one of the major factors behind seasonal fuel price increases in May. The current national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is hovering around $3.14.
