Nine Inch Nails are teasing new festival ‘Future Ruins’

Nine Inch Nails are dropping hints about a new festival.

The metal band took to social media overnight to hint at a new announcement, which is set to be revealed within the next few hours.

Across their platforms on X/Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, Trent Reznor and co. shared an image that showed the words: “Future Ruins”. It was written in a bold, grey font on a black background, and the caption simply read “Tomorrow”, with a link to a new website.

At first glance, there seems to be little known about what the announcement is referring to, although when visiting the site there are links to new social media pages that suggest that the announcement will be around a new festival organised by the band.

On the page, there reads a section that says “The music tells the story”, and beneath are links to a Facebook page called ‘FutureRuinsFest’, Instagram and TikTok pages both with the handle ‘futureruinsfestival’, and an X page called ‘RuinsFestival’. On top of that, the website mentions that Live Nation is promoting the upcoming event.

Unusually, there is also a new Letterboxd profile listed, and claims to be based in Los Angeles. The platform is one centring around film and, although members Reznor and Atticus Ross have an extensive history in the film industry – working on scores for Challengers, Tron: Ares, The Social Network, Soul and more – it is unclear how this will relate to the upcoming announcement.

More details about the ‘Future Ruins’ launch are expected shortly, and already the post has got fans talking.

“Probably a festival that NIN is hosting or at the very least headlining,” one fan wrote on Reddit in response to the update, while another added: “They’d been talking about a film score festival in interviews for a bit, and have been playing with the idea of an arts festival since ‘Ghosts‘”

Someone else reiterated the comments, writing: “Sounds like the music fest they talked about ages ago… the soundtrack one,” and another Reddit user shared how this would explain the Letterboxd page.

The hints of a new festival comes as Reznor and co. announced details of a huge tour back in January, dubbed ‘Peel It Back’.

It’ll mark their first live performances together since 2022 and see them take to the stage in the UK, Europe and North America later this summer. For the tour, they’ll be supported by Boys Noize. You can visit here to find remaining tickets.

At the end of last year, the frontman revealed that NIN had been in the studio working on new material, adding: “We’re ready to be back in the driver’s seat.”

An upcoming new record would mark their first since the surprise 2020 ambient double album ‘Ghosts V-VI’, which followed 2018’s ‘Bad Witch’.
