(Undated) — A bill pushing for seat belts on school buses has passed both the House and the Senate in Illinois. On Wednesday, it was announced that the bill had passed and will be sent to Governor, JB Pritzker, to be signed into law. The legislation would require any school bus manufactured in Illinois to have three-point seat belts starting in 2031. This plan will grandfather in any school buses purchased before 2031, and the bill doesn’t require school district staff, contractors, or any entity in charge of school buses to make sure students are wearing seat belts. The bill only requires new buses to have them. Supporters of the bill believe it will improve student safety.
