SHINee return with two new singles, ‘Poet | Artist’ and ‘Starlight’

SHINee are back with two new songs – check them out below.

This past weekend, the K-pop group released their comeback single ‘Poet | Artist’. The summery single sees the group explore themes of enjoying life as poets and artists – it was written by late member Jonghyun, who died in 2017.

The track has also received an accompanying music video, which you can check out below.

Additionally, the group have also released a b-side single ‘Starlight’, which was co-written and produced by Grant Boutin. Boutin is credited with producing Tate McRae’s hit single ‘Greedy’.

‘Starlight’ sees SHINee combine dance-pop with electric guitars. Check it out below.

Both songs coincide with SHINee’s 17th anniversary. The group’s returned was teased by member Taemin back in February, when he shared that SHINee will make a comeback after he was done with his solo tour.

Around that time, SHINee member Key reflected on Jonghyun’s death: “I was really shaken at the time and wondered what the point of life was. I even considered quitting everything,” he said, per translations by Koreaboo.

Despite having “many breakdowns”, Key recalled a switch in his mindset as the group geared up for a concert at the Tokyo Dome at the time. “We had the mindset of ‘let’s get through this together.’ It would be hard if there were no place to honour him together. We wanted to send him off like that. His brilliant and short youth,” he shared.

He later went on to say that he still sees Jonghyun whenever the band are preparing to record albums or practising for concerts: “It’s not like he says anything, but when we have a concert meeting, he sits there. When we practice, he sits there. We’re always together. We will always be five.”

SHINee’s last studio album was ‘Hard’ in 2023. The  record featured a title track of the same name and received a three-star review from NME“‘Hard’ is perfectly pleasant; not a bad album in the slightest, but also not one that reaches the dizzying heights SHINee are capable of,” wrote NME’s Rhian Daly.
