The series centres of the Harrigan crime family as they attempt to uphold their empire London, while also focusing on their fixer Harry Da Souza, played by Tom Hardy.
The first season, which also stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, has generated a lot of buzz, but is this the last fans will get to see of the characters?
Is ‘MobLand’ getting a season 2?
A second season of MobLand is yet to be officially announced. However, this shouldn’t be a cause for concern just yet, as the first season still hasn’t finished airing. Any announcement is unlikely to be made until then.
The chances of a renewal are looking strong, though, considering the premiere broke records for Paramount+, being watched by 2.2 million global viewers on its first day, the highest ever in the streamer’s history.
Tom Hardy has also expressed interest in returning for a second season, telling The Hollywood Reporter that that is definitely “the plan” and that the show could become more “international”.
“There are international elements to organised crime”, he said, “which are touched on in season one and the control of drugs and ammunition and weapons and people and all kinds of things that go through Europe and from Africa through to South America, Pakistan and the variable commodities that move around Europe.
“There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kind of commodities through and who polices that and how that fits into a world stage.”
In a three-star review of the series, NME wrote: “Tom Hardy, both endearing and menacing, is easily the best thing in the show. However, for all the laugh-out-loud moments and intriguing plot lines, it’s hard to believe Guy Ritchie is still rolling out the same old schtick. It’s as well made a version of this show as you could expect but it’s nothing to get excited about. Lock, Stock feels like a very long time ago indeed.”
