(Undated) — The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded may not have fallen as low as forecasted ahead of Memorial Day, but it was still some of the lowest prices in years. According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, the holiday weekend was still one of the most affordable since 2021 and, when adjusted for inflation, among the cheapest in nearly a decade. He says as we move into the “heart of summer,” we’re likely to see a relatively stable stretch for gas prices. The current national average is hovering around $3.09 a gallon. Here in Illinois, the statewide average is $3.35 a gallon. Drivers in Indiana are paying an average of $3.07 a gallon. Mississippi has the lowest prices in the nation at $2.63 a gallon, while California has the highest at $4.70 a gallon.
