(Mattoon) — The City of Mattoon is reissuing a “Do Not Use” water order. The order was announced last night after officials said recent testing has shown harmful levels of an algal bloom in the city’s water. This comes after the “Do Not Use” order from July 10th that expired July 13th. Both the Coles County Health Department and the City of Mattoon Water Treatment Plant said that, as before, residents should use only bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, and preparing food. They also say not to attempt treat the water yourself. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe.
