(Undated) — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Robinson Police Department have issued a “Scam Warning.” According to local law enforcement, they have been alerted to an increase in scam calls being received throughout the county by unknown individuals impersonating law enforcement. These calls are targeting innocent people, stating they could have local violations or warrants, and asking for money to be paid over the phone. The CCSO and RPD remind the public that they will never call you demanding money, and fines associated with local legal matters will always be handled via the court system. The public is reminded to never provide personal information over the telephone to unknown parties. Officials say it is important to remain alert and be vigilant to recognize these scams and take measures to protect yourself. The safest and simplest thing to do if you receive one of these calls is to hang up.
