(Robinson) — The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced the closure of the railroad crossing on Illinois 1 near Robinson for an improvement project at the crossing. According to the IDOT, work is tentatively scheduled to begin today. They say the closure is necessary to allow Indiana Railroad to remove and replace the existing crossing with a “rail seal crossing.” They say this improvement will address water issues that caused failure and created safety issues. IDOT says signs and barricades will be used to indicate the closure of the road, and a detour will be posted utilizing County Highway 14 (700N) and Illinois 33 in Palestine. Work is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Thursday. Motorists will need to seek an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
