(Undated) — The BBB is reminding you that it may be best to ignore that email from your “boss.” BBB Investigator, Don O’Brien, says the “Business Email Compromise Scam” takes many forms. In essence, the scammer poses as a “reliable source” who sends an email from a spoofed or hacked account, such as your boss, asking you to act urgently. O’Brien says it is vitally important to think before you act when receiving these types of emails.
The BBB urges businesses and other organizations to take technical precautions such as multi-factor authentication for email logins and other changes in email settings, along with verifying changes in information about customers, employees, or vendors.
