(Oblong) — The Village of Oblong continues to work on raising funds for a new “all-inclusive park.” Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, says they have secured half of the funds necessary to build a fence around the property, thanks to the 54 Oblong Foundation. She says they will be applying for additional grant opportunities in the fall as well, and once the fence funding is secured, they will begin purchasing playground equipment. Fielder says the park will not be exclusively for special needs kids and family members, but it will be constructed with them in the forefront of planning. Fielder reminds the community that if you would like to donate, those donations can be sent to the Village of Oblong Village Clerk, 202 S Range Street, Oblong, IL 62449. She asks that donations be marked with “Special Needs Park.” Fielder says Monical’s of Robinson will be hosting a “Community Night” tomorrow for those who wish to donate that way. Simply mention the fundraiser to your server.
