Line Of Duty is set to return for a seventh series with Adrian Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston all confirmed to reprise their roles in the BBC show.
A new six-part series, written by creator Jed Mercurio, will begin filming in Belfast in spring 2026, according to BBC News.
The series wrapped up after six seasons in 2021, but many fans were left disappointed when it was revealed that bumbling DSI Ian Buckells turned out to be the crooked cop known as H.
According to a synopsis, series seven will open with the AC-12 rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards with Steve Arnott (Compston), Kate Fleming (McClure) and Ted Hastings (Dunbar) still working to tackle corruption in the police force.
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, a charismatic officer celebrated for a string of takedowns of organised crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
In a statement (via BBC News), Mercurio said: “Everyone involved in Line Of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show’s fans. We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.”
He added: “Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line Of Duty was off air so I’ve been forced to use my imagination.”
Compston said that he “can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together.”
McClure added: “It goes without saying I’m so excited Line Of Duty is back! Can’t wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we’ll see you soon!”
Dunbar also said: “As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year. Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns.”
It comes after Dunbar previously suggested a new series could be in the pipeline last year.
There were rumours that the show would return for a special three part series but that never came to fruition.
