Gas Prices Remain Below $3 as we Begin 2026

(Undated) — The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded remains below three dollars as we begin 2026. According to this morning’s numbers from GasBuddy.com, the current national average is $2.78 a gallon, two cents higher than Monday. Here in Illinois, the statewide average is $2.89, down two cents from Monday. Across the Wabash in Indiana, drivers are paying an average of $2.84 a gallon, eighteen cents higher than on Monday. Oklahoma drivers continue to enjoy the lowest prices nationwide, with a statewide average of $2.19 per gallon, two cents higher than Monday. Drivers in California are paying the highest at $4.18 a gallon, two cents higher than on Monday.
