(Undated) – It’s the beginning of “mowing season,” and authorities are reminding the public to stay safe. The Consumer Product Safety Administration reminds everyone to keep children indoors and not allow kids to play nearby while mowing. Never allow children to play on a lawnmower, even if it is turned off. Never allow a child to ride on a riding lawn mower with you. They say children should be at least 12 years old to operate a lawn mower and at least 16 years old to operate a riding mower. The public is reminded to always wear eye and hearing protection and sturdy shoes while mowing. Never pull backward or mow in reverse unless necessary. Pick up stones, toys, and debris from the lawn to prevent injuries from flying objects. Blade settings should be adjusted by an adult only, and with the lawn mower turned off.
