Dorinda Sue Smith

Dorinda Sue Smith, 65, of Oblong, Illinois, passed away at 7:22 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, Illinois.

Dorinda was born on January 31, 1961, in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Claude Jake Best and Dixie Lee (Hepner) Best. She was a proud graduate of Oblong High School, Class of 1979. On April 8th, 1985, Dorinda married the love of her life, Dennis Dale Smith, in a courthouse ceremony. Their marriage was one rooted in love and companionship, and though their time together was far too short, the bond they shared remained a lasting part of her life. Dennis preceded her in death on October 16, 1997, a loss she carried with strength and resilience.

Throughout her life, Dorinda held various positions in the community, working at Pizza & More in Oblong, Walmart, Hershey, and McDonald’s in Robinson. No matter where she was employed, she brought with her a dependable work ethic, a friendly smile, and a willingness to lend a helping hand to those around her. She took pride in doing her work well and valued the connections she made along the way.

Dorinda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking, crocheting, watching her favorite television programs, especially Western shows, camping, and riding horses. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kyla Sue Smith of Greensfork, Indiana, and Jody Dale Smith of Oblong, Illinois; two grandchildren, Dustin Irwin and Jasper Irwin of Greensfork, Indiana; one brother, Denny Best of Oblong, Illinois; two sisters, Diana (Ed) Davis of Oblong, Illinois, and Deborah (Richard) Baker of Robinson, Illinois; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dorinda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dennis Dale Smith; and a nephew, Shaun Smith.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pulliam Funeral Home, P.O. Box 121, Oblong, Illinois 62449, to assist with funeral expenses.

Arrangements are under the care of Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, Illinois.
