(Robinson) — The City of Robinson has taken the next steps in “modernizing the Robinson Police Department.” City officials announced on Friday the purchase of the former MTI building on the northeast side of Robinson. According to Robinson Mayor, Mike Shimer, this move completes a nearly three-year effort to modernize the Robinson Police Department into a new, more functional home. He says nearly two and a half years ago, the City put in place the “police protection tax,” which was intended for the future development of a police station. Shimer says with this foresight, funding is in place to cover the purchase over ten years without any additional funding needed. He says by being proactive, the city has addressed a critical need for the police department’s growth and professional operation, allowing the civic center, the present location of the police department, to transform that area into much-needed space for city records, operational storage, and a possible additional office, and create space specifically for a handicap accessible restroom. He says this will also expand the city’s footprint. Shimer says the relocation of the Police Department will occur over a period of several-months. He says currently, all Robinson police department contacts should continue to be made at the Civic Center.
