(Undated) — For a third year in a row, Illinois has surpassed 100 tornadoes. However, State Climatologist, Trent Ford, says that does not mean we are part of a “new tornado alley.”
Ford says the tornado numbers over the last three years are not indicative of a “new normal.”
Ford says that before 2024, we had below-average tornado frequency. Only one tornado was recorded in May in Illinois after 70 in April.
