(Robinson) — The Robinson Police Department completed its leg of the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics yesterday. According to a post on the RPD’s Facebook page, they were passed the torch by Chris Robbins and Jesse Stephens with IDOC. RPD officers carried it from Robinson to Oblong and passed the torch to Oblong Police Chief Colton Williamson and OPD Officer Taylor Smith. The “Eternal Flame of Hope” began its journey on May 29th at Soldier Field in Chicago. Special Olympics Organizers say the Flame of Hope will be carried through 13 states, across all time zones, and cover approximately 10,000 miles. The Torch Run will feature a national team of 73 participants, including 53 law enforcement officers and six Special Olympics athletes. On June 20th the flame will make its way to Huntington Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. There, the torch will ignite the cauldron, officially opening the USA Games.
