(Undated) — The 4th of July likely means more time outside in the sun. Crawford Memorial Hospital is reminding the public to be generous when applying sunscreen. They say most adults need about an ounce of sunscreen to cover their bodies fully. They say you should apply sunscreen to dry skin fifteen minutes before going outside and reapply an ounce, or the equivalent of a shot glass, every two hours if you are in direct sunlight. Skin cancer is on the rise in the U.S. The National Cancer Institute estimates there were more than two hundred thousand new cases of skin melanomas and more than eight thousand related deaths in 2025. The public is reminded that “Sun safety is always in season.”
