ISP Identifies Man Shot in Sunday Effingham Church Incident

(Effingham) — The Illinois State Police have identified the man involved in a shooting incident in Effingham on Sunday. According to the ISP, thirty-six-year-old Allen Gattino of St. Charles, MO was shot during an altercation with police at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Officers from the Effingham Police Department and Effingham County Sheriff’s Department attempted to restrain Gattino. During the struggle, he produced a firearm, which discharged, and he was struck. Gattino was airlifted to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries. The ISP says this is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
