Village of Oblong Reminding the Public That Golf Cart and Side-by-Side Rules Still Apply

(Oblong) — The Crawford County Fair continues at the fairgrounds in Oblong, and the Village is reminding the public that they do allow for “Special Event” operations of street-legal golf carts, neighborhood vehicles, and side-by-sides within the village without purchasing a permit. Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, reminds the public that although many of these events are held at the park, the “normal” ordinances and rules apply at all times. Fielder says there must be a red reflective warning device on the back of the machine, it must be equipped with seatbelts, a full windshield, a horn, brakes, turn signals, headlights, and brake lights. Drivers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and obey all Illinois and Village traffic laws. Operation is limited to the hours between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Vehicles can be driven on any village street except for Main Street (IL Route 33). Fielder also reminds the public that vehicles, including scooters, are not allowed to be driven along the walking path in the park or through any of the park grounds.

The 2026 events are:
* Crawford County Fair (July 19-24)
* Antique Tractor & Engine Show/Garage Sales (August 7-9)
* Metal Meet (October 7-10)
* Finney Estate Sale (October 23-24)
* Fall Follies (October 31)
