(Undated) — The statewide tornado count has climbed and shattered the 2024 record. Illinois State Climatologist, Trent Ford, continues to add up tornadoes in 2026, and the numbers keep climbing. According to state records fifteen have occurred in August, pushing the state over the two-hundred mark, shattering the previous state record of one-hundred forty-two set in 2024. Ford says Illinois is not considered to be in “tornado alley” but in each of the last four years, the state has recorded over 100 tornadoes.
