Gas Prices Surge as Labor Day Travel Begins

(Undated) — For many the busy Labor Day travel weekend begins today or tomorrow, and gas prices are surging just in time. According to this morning’s numbers from GasBuddy.com, the National Average is $4.13 a gallon, a dime higher than Monday. Here in Illinois, the price at the pump is eight cents higher at $4.32 a gallon. Indiana drivers have also seen an increase, with prices jumping seven cents from Monday to a statewide average of $3.45 a gallon. GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, said gasoline, while not at all-time records, is at its highest level ever recorded this late in the calendar year, meaning Americans are for the first time seeing a national average price of gasoline above $4 per gallon on Labor Day, eclipsing the previous record of $3.83 per gallon set in 2012.
