IDNR Talks Tree Stand Safety

(Undated) – The bow season is ongoing, and the firearm deer season is just around the corner in Illinois. The IDNR is reminding hunters to be safe when hunting from tree stands. They say tree stands are the number-one source of hunting-related accidents and fatalities in Illinois. The IDNR says to always wear a full-body harness and tether from the moment you leave the ground until you are back on the ground, use three points of contact while climbing, and use a haul line to pull up unloaded gear. They say it’s also crucial to inspect all equipment before each use and to avoid using drugs or alcohol while hunting. According to the IDNR, the first firearm deer season in Illinois is November 20th-22nd.
