(Undated) – Authorities are reminding drivers “Don’t Veer for a Deer.” This time of year there is a sharp increase in deer-related accidents. The IDNR is reminding motorists that this is deer mating season, which means deer become more active. More than 40% of crashes involving deer in Illinois occurred in October, November, and December. The vast majority of these accidents result in property damage. However, motorists find themselves in real trouble when they panic and veer away from the deer. State, county, and local authorities are reminding drivers that if a deer jumps into your path, apply the brakes and hold the wheel firmly. After impact safely pull your vehicle well off the roadway and call 911. Remember, “Don’t Veer for Deer.”
