(Undated) — A public hearing was held this week regarding Illinois’s new assault weapons ban and registration process. Illinois State Police Director, Brendan Kelly, says they are committed to transparency in the process.
Kelly says the registration of existing assault-style weapons is ongoing under temporary rules published by the Illinois State Police. He says the uptake on registrations seems to be lagging behind the amount of those types of guns already owned in the state. Halfway through October, slightly more than 1,000 gun owners disclosed owning about 2,000 firearms.
