(Undated) – Recent precipitation has helped improve “drought” conditions in Crawford County. However, according to the most recent Drought Condition Report from the National Weather Service, Crawford and surrounding counties remain in a “severe drought.” Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, and Lawrence Counties as well as portions of Cumberland and Clark Counties are included in the “D2” or “severe drought” category. Here at the Classic Hits, WTYE, studio, we have recorded just shy of two inches of total precipitation for December. The National Weather Service says the ongoing El Niño pattern favors higher odds of precipitation being below normal for January, as well as through the winter.
