January Weather Was “Turbulent”

By Tony Collins Feb 2, 2024 | 6:34 AM
(Undated) – The old adage is “If you don’t like the weather in Illinois, wait.” January weather was turbulent and brought us just about every type of storm system possible. According to Ed Shimon at the National Weather Service in Lincoln, January started with an above-normal temperature trend that carried over from December but that quickly changed.
Shimon says January also saw snow, several days of dangerous wind chills, and wrapped up with rain. For January, we recorded an average high of thirty-seven degrees, an average low of twenty-three, and nearly five inches of precipitation which came in the form of rain and snow. WTYE continues to be an official weather recording and reporting station for the National Weather Service.
