IDNR Says Southern Illinois is The “Eclipse Crossroads of America”

By Tony Collins Feb 2, 2024 | 6:38 AM

(Undated) – If you haven’t heard, there is an eclipse coming. Seven years after the 2017 total eclipse delighted viewers in the Midwest, another total solar eclipse will be visible on the afternoon of April 8, 2024. The next total solar eclipse visible in the United States won’t be until 2044. According to the IDNR, Southern Illinois is considered the “eclipse crossroads of America” because it will be in the centerline for the path of totality this year as it was in 2017. This year’s eclipse “peak viewing time” will be around 2 p.m. central and should last nearly twice as long as it did in 2017, around four minutes and nine seconds.
