(Undated) – Crawford County authorities are issuing a warning about scams. According to Crawford County Sheriff, Bill Rutan, due to the “overwhelming amount” of telephone scam calls residents have received, they are reminding the public of a few popular scams. He says the Sheriff’s Office will never call you and threaten to arrest you if you don’t submit back taxes to the I.R.S. The United States Postal Service will not call you saying that they have intercepted a package containing drugs that were addressed in your name. You do not have a package waiting at Amazon, and they will not contact you by phone to verify your credit card number. Last but not least, your grandchild, more than likely, has not taken a trip out of the country and is now calling you for bond money. Police officers will not negotiate a bond amount over the phone and ask you to submit it electronically. As always, you are reminded to simply hang up the phone and never provide personal or financial information.
