Flu Continues in the Area

(Undated) — Flu cases across most of the state are leveling off, but in southern Illinois, the flu seems to be as strong as ever. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health influenza is not a reportable disease in Illinois, however IDPH examines reports from many health care sites throughout the state. These sites include physician offices, emergency departments, and other clinics that report acute illness with influenza-like symptoms. The IDPH currently lists the flu as “widespread.” Their latest report shows a spike in flu cases in southern Illinois.The most recent data shows that twenty eight percent or approximately 539 of the 1,923 people tested were positive for the flu virus.
