(Undated) — Students across the nation will be taking part in one form or another in todays student lead “walk out” and local students are no different. Though each school has chosen to handle the situation differently, either with a moment of silence or allowing the students to gather in the gym, most agree that student safety is the main concern. To that end you will see a stepped up police presence around the counties schools today. According to EMPOWER, the group organizing the action the national walk-out is scheduled to take place at 10am local time and last 17 minutes. The protest serves as both a memorial and protest action. Those taking part do so to honor the lives of the 17 people killed at Stoneman Douglas and press lawmakers to pass stricter gun control laws.
