State Farmers Still Behind Planting Average

(Undated) – Farmers across the state continued the push to get crops in the ground last week. According to the latest USD Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report, there were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Corn planted was at 88 percent, compared to 100 percent for both last year and the 5-year average. Corn emerged was at 74 percent. Corn condition was 4 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Soybeans planted were at 70 percent, compared to 99 percent last year and the 5-year average of 95 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 50 percent. Winter wheat headed reached 97 percent. Winter wheat harvested was 6 percent, compared to 26 percent for last year and 21 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated at 8 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 29 percent good, and 4 percent excellent.
