Area Crops Still Struggling

(Undated) – Crops statewide continue to struggle following one of the wettest springs in recent history. According to the latest USDA Illinois Crop Progress and Condition Report, as of Sunday Corn emerged was at 95 percent and corn silking was at 4 percent. Corn condition was 6 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Soybeans planted were at 93 percent, compared to 100 percent last year and the 5-year average of 99 percent. Soybeans emerged was at 86 percent. Soybean blooming was at 2 percent. Soybean condition was 6 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvested was 74 percent, compared to 91 percent for last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average.
